PC POST #371: Another Punisher teaser and episodes titles dropped out plus an Easter egg from comics!

Today we were presented with a teaser ensembling the cast of the Punisher series to be premiered somewhere in November.

I don't know if this is part of the intro or just a teaser presenting us the main cast of the series. There is no release date revealed yet.

Billy Russo ( Ben Barnes)

Karen Page ( Deborah Ann Woll)

Rawlins ( Paul Schulze)

Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah)

Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)

Frank Castle ( Jon Bernthal)

And it's not over for today news! It was revealed by Morse code on twitter the name of the 13 episodes of this upcoming season.

1. 3:AM

2. Two Dead Man
3. Kandahar
4. Resupply
5. Gunner
6. The Judas Goat
7. Crosshairs
8. Cold Steel
9. Front Toward Enemy
10. Virtue of the Vicious
11. Danger Close
12. Home
13. Memento Mori

It's curious to know that the last episode is the name of the first issue of Punisher (2014) by Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads.

"Memento Mori" is a Latin expression that means "Remember you must die".

In the comics, Frank got a ring with a skull ( Memento Mori) and offered to officer Sam Stone.

It's good to know that someone is doing their homework while renaming the Punisher episodes.

PC POST #370: Marvel's Punisher Legacy will start with a wrong renumbering?

It's been weeks since I'm thinking in renumbering myself the Punisher comics that will make Marvel start their Punisher Legacy with issue #218.
I always thought it was a bit low according to the runs the character had. After some thought, I think I did finally figure it out.

This is not the official renumbering!

If this renumbering is right, it's unbelievable how they ignored Punisher War Journal (1988) #01-#80, Punisher War Zone (1992) #01-#41 and the Punisher Marvel Knights by Ennis  Vol. 4 (#01-#12) and Vol. 5 (#01-#37) these are books set in the main Marvel Universe! It should count too. It's more 170 issues to add those "unofficial" #217 which equals 387 issues.

It's a mess if you ask me. But someone will say " Those are the main books of the Punisher set in the Marvel Universe", yeah, sure. The Punisher Marvel Knights were the main book of the character since the year 2000 to 2003 until they start publishing Punisher MAX and the Punisher integrated the Marvel Knights (Team) comic book which both doesn't count.
Maybe it's because it's branded by "Marvel Knights" they don't consider a "main run". I understand they don't consider limited series or runs out of continuity like MAX but clearly this count is a mess. Being this renumbering true or false, the Punisher clearly has more than #217 issues.

Until the release of the official renumbering by Marvel, I really doubt this count will fall too much from their count.
If they want to renumber it and start all over, they have to do it right. Maybe it's because of business and they think you can find the TPB's and hardcovers more easily than older runs?
Personally, i don't know. But I would like to hear about why they excluded some runs and others don't.

PC POST #369: The Punisher #218: Creative Team Revealed and Why is it good!

Finally, it was revealed the creative team of the next Punisher run branded by Marvel's Legacy. On the writing, it will be Matthew Rosenberg and at the pencils will be Guiu Vilanova.

THE PUNISHER #218
MATTHEW ROSENBERG (W) • GUIU VILANOVA (A)
Cover by CLAYTON CRAIN
FRANK CASTLE: WAR MACHINE  Part 1
For years, Frank Castle has been fighting a one-man war against criminals who endanger the innocent, but when a certain one-eyed operative offers him the tools to take his fight global…how could he say no? Find out how Frank found his way into the WAR MACHINE Armor!

Looks like Frank will deal with the "one-eyed" (Nick Fury) operative to do some sort of wet work. Cleaning up the streets from bad people. Who will lead Nick Fury to gear up Frank with the War Machine armor. It looks like we will have some sort of partnership like we have seen in Ultimates storyline by Millar when Fury Jr. recruited Frank Castle to the team he was creating.

I don't know the work of Guiu Vilanova but a quick research on Google will get us amazed by the detail he gives to his own artwork. With this, i can't wait to see the artwork of this book!

Matthew Rosenberg, a man who knows Marvel Universe so well with enough proof of solid writing like Secret Warriors, Rocket Raccoon, Edge of Venomverse and Kingpin.
With this sort of experience he might give us a really great experience while reading his new Punisher run.
What really caught my attention to his work was in Civil War II tie-in Kingpin #3 when he wrote one of the best standalone Punisher issues.
He put the Punisher against the Kingpin with a massive and violent fight that honored both characters.

You might want to check it out this issue!

Matthew Rosenberg has a huge potential as a writer and with his knowledge about Marvel's criminal underworld he might put Frank Castle and his War Machine armor in good use.
On the other hand, he must make Frank Castle effective in his fight with this kind of gear and not a puppet in the hands of Nick Fury.

Can't wait for the beginning of this series in November!

PC POST #368: MARVEL'S THE PUNISHER teaser in detail plus Easter Eggs!

Last Friday all of us were surprised by the latest Punisher teaser, exactly in the same day Defenders were released.

Check out the trailer:

"All the things that I'd done...
Memories... They never hurt me.
But the past... it's more than memories.
It's the devil you sold your soul to.
He's coming...
He's coming to collect."

This teaser as everyone seen it is based in Frank's past and present. Looks like we will go back and forth through his memories and his darkest past in the military. Through most of this teaser, we see Frank slamming a hammer into the concrete and makes the skull.

The Family

During this teaser, we see some flashbacks of his family. In one of the scenes, we see someone (might be Frank) holding a picture of his family and we see him and his two kids visiting New York.

It's curious to see that, Frank's family was recast for the Punisher season 1.

The Military:

In most of this teaser, we see Frank's background as a Marine. We were presented with a very dark teaser. As a matter of fact, it wasn't a surprise due to what Blacksmith said about his "dark" past in Daredevil season 2.

This particular scene we have seen at the end of Daredevil season 2 when Frank punches this picture and gets the CD that says "Micro".

We get to see this fighting scene when Frank wastes two guys with synchronizing fighting style.

In this scene we see someone targeting "Maria Castle" and shoot her in the head. This seems to be some sort of dream or hallucination because she died in Central Park.

It's quite hard to figure it out who is being tortured but from the looks of it, it seems to be Frank's squad. For moments I thought of Billy Russo, but the image isn't clear.

On these scenes we see Frank assaulting some guy and he looks like he got his eye injured. And guess who is it?

RAWLINS!

Yeah, Rawlins was a good choice as a character to be in the series. He was a CIA covert agent who did a lot of wet works for CIA and for "himself". It's a bit different from the MAX story but Frank Castle did take his eye out while torturing him.

I still think that Cleve Gorman from "Return of Big Nothing" would be a better choice due to his story with Castle during his early days in the Marine Corp.

Netflix/Marvel will retcon some details about Frank's war origin, aside from being an originally a Vietnam to Afghanistan veteran like was revealed in Daredevil season 2.

It was revealed in Daredevil season 2 that Frank wasn't a saint during his days in the Marines. Col. Schoonover ( Blacksmith).
In this picture, we see some sort of covert operation with a small squad that probably is Frank's squad.

Don't know exactly what is this image but it looks like a "farewell". Or something he did that he will know he will regret it in the future. It's probably related to the next image.

I'd totally miss this one if Shaun Griffin didn't warn me. But why would Frank burn his vest?

Homage to Punisher MAX: BORN

"It's the devil you sold your soul to."

Don't know if this was just an homage to this specific story just for the teaser or that will be mentioned in the series. I really hope not. I hope they stay away from supernatural elements like "pacts with the devil" and stay grounded to reality.
This specific scene the "sacrifice" that cost this pact was the only thing i didn't like from "BORN".

Either way, I'm really pumped up for this series and finally, we got this teaser from Defenders. Now we can have the release date and the actual trailer!

PC POST #367: -REVIEW- Deadpool vs The Punisher #05

Another great miniseries comes to an end... And this one was the most well written, entertained, well drawn and action packed story I've read in the past years.
Sadly this only last 5 issues, Fred Van Lente did the "Ultimate" Punisher / Deadpool crossover you will ever get.

After the events of the last issue, we finally get an amazing fight between the Punisher and Deadpool, teased for most of this run, we finally get our prize in this last issue. Fred Van Lente respected both characters and give us a real treat for both fans of the Punisher and Deadpool.
Fantastic scenes that looked like that came out from a John Woo film or maybe... better than that.
Deadpool continues to be a jokester and always taunting the Punisher.

Van Lente built a great synergy between Deadpool and Punisher. They aren't friends and barely allies, but due to his writing, he makes them work together despite their differences.
The characters motivations are different and it will lead to a fight an expectable fight between them, Frank wants to cut the financial support of these major terrorist organizations and Deadpool wants to save his little friend Hudson, the kid who knows the codes to put down these organizations.
This story doesn't have a happy ending. But that doesn't mean it isn't a GOOD ending. And it was a good ending.

The art of Pere Perez and the coloring of Redmond make the visuals of this comic book astonishing. Very well drawn with amazing colors.
Pere Perez is the guy behind the fighting scenes that were the best thing I've seen lately in a comic book. Great motion and believable moves for each character skills.
Part of the success of this comic book goes to Pere Perez and Redmond. Both did such a great work in the visuals of this comic that I can't imagine this comic without them.

After so many years with fans demanding a fight between both characters, we finally had it. An excellent writer who respectfully wrote the best portrayal of both characters in a comic book.

Overal rate: 9 / 10
