PC POST #367: -REVIEW- Deadpool vs The Punisher #05

 Another great miniseries comes to an end... And this one was the most well written, entertained, well drawn and action packed story I've read in the past years.

Sadly this only last 5 issues, Fred Van Lente did the "Ultimate" Punisher / Deadpool crossover you will ever get.

After the events of the last issue, we finally get an amazing fight between the Punisher and Deadpool, teased for most of this run, we finally get our prize in this last issue. Fred Van Lente respected both characters and give us a real treat for both fans of the Punisher and Deadpool.

Fantastic scenes that looked like that came out from a John Woo film or maybe... better than that.

Deadpool continues to be a jokester and always taunting the Punisher.

Van Lente built a great synergy between Deadpool and Punisher. They aren't friends and barely allies, but due to his writing, he makes them work together despite their differences.

The characters motivations are different and it will lead to a fight an expectable fight between them, Frank wants to cut the financial support of these major terrorist organizations and Deadpool wants to save his little friend Hudson, the kid who knows the codes to put down these organizations.

This story doesn't have a happy ending. But that doesn't mean it isn't a GOOD ending. And it was a good ending.

The art of Pere Perez and the coloring of Redmond make the visuals of this comic book astonishing. Very well drawn with amazing colors.
Pere Perez is the guy behind the fighting scenes that were the best thing I've seen lately in a comic book. Great motion and believable moves for each character skills.
Part of the success of this comic book goes to Pere Perez and Redmond. Both did such a great work in the visuals of this comic that I can't imagine this comic without them.

After so many years with fans demanding a fight between both characters, we finally had it. An excellent writer who respectfully wrote the best portrayal of both characters in a comic book.

PC POST #357: -REVIEW- Deadpool vs The Punisher #04

Penultimate issue of this fantastic series didn't fail to impress. Aside from the shocking ending at the end of this issue, Fred Van Lente gave us a great entertaining miniseries so far with the great artwork of Pere Perez.

The plot was somewhat sacrificed for a great action scenes due to the fight among Taskmaster vs the Punisher and Deadpool. But fear not, this was a great reading.

The fighting scenes were well built by Van Lente and Perez, like last issue it was amazing seeing Frank showing some great martial art skills against Taskmaster.
Frank was always a martial artist but sometimes writers forgot about that, it was a breath of fresh air to see Frank being master in many disciplines and used specific techniques against Taskmaster.

Van Lente's writing in this book is very simple without any kind of weird twists, this is a story of two antiheroes who don't fall in love for each other but they know they have to work together to accomplish their objectives, Frank wants the codes to cut out the financial support of the criminal parties and Deadpool wants to save Hudson.

Deadpool and Punisher are very different from each other but Van Lente's make it work perfectly. He makes sense and built a good synergy between them. 




Pere Pérez is an amazing artist, the fighting panels are astonishing. Great motion between characters and specially the techniques applied in the fight. Either Van Lente or Pérez knows their martial arts. 
Ruth Redmond deserves some shout out too because she was part of this amazing art and give life to every panel of this comic with her beautiful colors. 

Great cover by Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire, i still think that this should be on the 5th issue and not on the 4th but either way it's top notch artwork. Both characters beaten up to death just makes this cover the most epic of this series.

PC POST #353: Goran Parlov talks about The Punisher "Platoon" miniseries and more!

For those who missed this interview by Les Commis Des Comics, Goran Parlov talked a bit about the upcoming Punisher miniseries "The Platoon", Barracuda and the many styles of Frank Castle he worked on these years. 

Goran Parlov started to explain why this project took three years to be finished. 

"I had this opportunity to work with Mark Millar and we created Starlight and i just politely asked if i could have time for myself to do my own creator project..." He continued. "The Platoon was postponed, and i took my time to write Starlight and i returned to do the Platoon."

The interviewer asked if the Platoon is the Punisher's origin story, Goran replied:

"Yes, you will see Frank Castle as innocent guy who never killed anybody before, just a guy who arrived in Vietnam... okay, he's never been innocent but you know, we will see the youngest Frank Castle ever."

Goran was asked about the creation of Barracuda, what did he add to the character or it was Ennis script.

" I add the visuals, but i remember the first episodes, i didn't know he will become an important character so, i didn't pay so much attention to Barracuda. As matter of fact when i see the first panels of Barracuda, i'm not happy with it, he wasn't characterized well enough... it's my frustration. Later i realized it could be a very funny character and very important.character at least for me... "

Goran continued... "A few episodes later, he became what i really wanted him to be, his face and his exaggerated figure.

Goran talked about his favorite fight in Punisher MAX, the final battle of Punisher vs Barracuda..

"...They kept mutilating each other and at some point i really didn't know how human body looks like without all those parts... The nose, the ears, the eyes, the fingers, the arms, the legs, the axe in the chest.. and you know... what's left of the human body?" 

He continued "...Barracuda is all about exaggeration... We exaggerated as much as possible and in the end Frank put 30 bullets from an AK... and i hope he's dead."

Goran was asked about his favorite Punisher style, Punisher MAX, Punisher vs Marvel Universe or the Platoon version.

"The Punisher MAX version. I feel connected with that kind of character. Although the Punisher vs Marvel Universe was completely another universe that doesn't have anything to do with the MAX character, so i wanted to destinguish the two Punishers and that was the reason... I thought the ponytail was a cool thing to add, even because i hoped that later i could remove the ponytail and make him look like the Conan. At the end of the book he looks very much like the Conan the Barbarian."

At the end of the interview he talks again about the Platoon...

"I'm really proud of the Platoon. I can't wait to see it published and i hope you enjoy it."

PC POST #351: -Review- DEADPOOL VS PUNISHER #3

Deadpool and Punisher are still looking for Mariana and Hudson to get the backup of the account numbers of the major crime syndicates... But the Bank hired a new player to recover the backup account numbers... the Taskmaster!

I couldn't be more excited about this miniseries, Fred Van Lente and Pere Pérez are making one of the best team up books with the Punisher i've read in awhile.

It's a delight to read a comic book that respects the main characters and Van Lente does it. This third issue reveals the main aspects of personality from Deadpool and Punisher. Any new fan with zero knowledge about these characters would understand perfectly their beliefs and motivations.

I couldn't be more excited to see Taskmaster in this miniseries, specially because the Punisher never met him before and i hope to see these two fighting.

We can expect an action pack story from the beginning till the end with a little bit of a twist by Taskmaster. It was amazing that Taskmaster didn't care about Deadpool, because he knows him, but how interest he showed regarding the Punisher, in one page he describes the Punisher fighting skills while he sent all his mercs against him. Really cool stuff!

The art of Pere Peréz is great. The action scenes are superb and the characters are very well drawn. It's far from being a bored artwork in fact it's a very dynamic artwork. The coloring of Ruth Redmond is as precious as the art of Perez, she gives life and realism to the artwork of Perez and i really loved how she set the perfect tone for this miniseries.

The Good:

Great storytelling;

Amazing artwork;

High level of entertainment.

Not so good:

This should be called Deadpool / The Punisher ( Team up) instead of Deadpool vs Punisher.

PC POST #349: -REVIEW- DEADPOOL VS PUNISHER #02 (2017)

After a wonderful first issue this miniseries keeps up a good pace but this time with a little bit of plot development instead of action packed. Van Lente is doing a perfect job portraying both characters. I think the fans of both characters should be happy with this great service.

VanLente built a great chemistry between both characters when we see the usual comedian side of Deadpool and the seriousness of the Punisher. So far, it's working.

We can find some cameos of Marvel characters and we see how Bank got the hands on everybody pockets.

Last issue was top notch action packed adventure with some head to head fight between Deadpool and the Punisher. In this second issue, the action slows down a bit and we will see some detective skills of the Punisher, when he investigates the "tragic deaths" of Bank's family. The Punisher clearly is taking advantage of Deadpool's being a naive

We got some awesome sword fighting between Deadpool and the Don of the Dead.

This comic book is called Deadpool vs Punisher, but in this issue they did not fight against each other but for what i have seen it so far and how it ended we will have another clash between Deadpool and Punisher soon enough.

The artwork of George Pérez is great and i was highly surprised by the details of how gory he can be. Great detail when Deadpool sliced the intestines and head of his enemies during the sword fight with Don. Another positive detail is the great coloring by Redmond that turned this artwork really "smooth" and pleasant read/watch. 

The Good:

-Great pace and interesting plot;

-Awesome portrayal of the protagonists;

-Great artwork of George Pérez and Redmond.

Not so Good:

-Deadpool and Punisher didn't fight in this issue.

PC POST #346: -REVIEW- Deadpool vs The Punisher #01 (2017)

Here it is the one of the most awaited miniseries of the year... Deadpool vs Punisher #01 is out and it was amazing!

Deadpool vs Punisher #01 started really well, great introduction to all the characters and this is the perfect example of a well structured plot. It's not fancy and it's nothing "new", but sometimes it's the simple things that work so well.

Fred Van Lente choose well in giving us the points of view from both characters, we know their objectives and motivations from this very first issue. 

The plot is very simple: Frank wants to put down the Bank because he is linked to the criminal world and Deadpool wants protect him because to him the Bank was good to him all his life.

Van Lente and Perez did make me confused in a good way. The Bank "seems" to be a good man to his face expressions and due to the fact of being a family man. In the other way Frank's mission seems more than enough to put this criminal businessperson down.

The art of Pere Pérez is so good. The characters are so well drawn, the action panels are great, explosions, bullets and blood... Everything you need with two of the most deadly characters in the Marvel Universe.

The expressions of the characters are very accurate, specially with the Punisher. He barely changes his expression giving us the feeling of a cold killer.

The art of Pérez was helped by the colorist Ruth Redmond who set the perfect tone for this first issue.

The cover was nicely done by the most talented cover artist i've seen in the past year... Declan Shalvey with Jordie Bellaire, two names well known in the Punisher current ongoing.

Marvel is betting a lot in this miniseries and the quality is well seen when we read it and watch the artwork.

The Good:

-Great plot;

-Artwork;

-The POV of both characters;

-Highly entertaining issue!

Not so Good:

Deadpool and Punisher will have fight each other in the upcoming miniseries that will start next Wednesday. 
This miniseries will be written by Fred VanLente and in the pencils will be Pere Perez.

PC POST #336: Deadpool vs Punisher "Bullet to the Brain" Miniseries!

Deadpool vs Punisher, is one of the most awaited fights between fans from both characters.

Who would win in a fight between two of the most ruthless and lethal characters in Marvel Universe?

We might get an answer (or not) by Fred Van Lente and Pere Perez the creative team who will make this battle a reality.

Deadpool and Punisher have been in the "red" Thunderbolts, that time lead by Red Hulk "Thaddeus Ross". Both characters didn't have a good start in Thunderbolts, Deadpool even tried to kill him because of Elektra and the Punisher shot him in the head because he talked too much or cut his body parts off in the final arc and put it in vibranium jars in the arc "Punisher vs Thunderbolts".

From the interview Fred Van Lente gave us good hints of what to come from this new miniseries.

The two characters have a genuine reason to go after each other; it’s not mind control, it’s not mistook-you-for-a-villain, both protagonists are each other’s antagonists for legitimate reasons the reader can relate to, and that’s where this new character The Bank comes in.

Van Lente also reveals some minor details about this new player named Bank.

The Bank is a shadowy character who’s existed in the Marvel Universe for decades, but we’ve never heard of him before because he is very much off the grid—he’s as his name implies a money man, who handles offshore accounts for a variety of amoral-to-immoral characters and organizations.

He also happens to be one of Wade Wilson’s best friends, having known Deadpool before his Weapon X days, and so when Punisher decides to bring The Bank down, he’s got to go through Deadpool to do that, and you know what? Frank doesn’t really have a problem with that, since he doesn’t like Wade all that much anyway.

This miniseries seems interesting enough and if it's well set we might have one of the most funny and awesome comics the Punisher has ever been. 

The moment when the Punisher world intersects with Deadpool's, things will get messy for sure.

Can't wait for April for this upcoming miniseries!

PC POST #333: Deadpool vs the Punisher TPB, new miniseries or collected stories?

According to Bleeding Cool, there will be a Deadpool vs the Punisher coming from Marvel Comics in 2017.

Their source was this Amazon link, which can tells that will be in August, 2017. There is no more news or synopses about this comic.

Fact is that Marvel is doing collections with the Punisher that started this year. The old Punisher War Journal by Jim Lee and Punisher vs Marvel Universe. Next year we will start with the most successful team up between Punisher, Wolverine and Ghost Rider, the two stories ( Hearts of Darkness and Dark Designs) will be released in one trade. 

Two more releases in August, Punisher : Suicide Run and what now it seems a miniseries or a collection of stories of Deadpool vs Punisher.

There are tons of stories that both clash together... most of the times it were only for a few panels. 

We got the first time both encountered in Deadpool ongoing back into '97, issues  #53, #54 & #55 and in the Deadpool: Suicide Kings arc. In both stories we can see Frank fighting Wade for full issues, which leads us to a huge probability of a collected stories. 

On the other side some comic book fans and specifically Deadpool and Punisher fans have been requesting this fight for far too long.

During Thunderbolts or even Punisher vs Marvel Universe we got both characters fight for just a few panels, i think this will not be enough to fill a book.

Personally i would want to see a new original miniseries, but i will be very happy with a launch of a collection stories with both characters.

Next year will be full of Punisher releases, maybe because of the Punisher series to be released by Netflix, near the end of 2017.

Let's wait for further developments or some synopses of this trade paper back.

PC POST #332: "Back to 'Nam", Ennis and Parlov are back with a sketch of the "Platoon".

Yes!! The project is still alive. The long promised miniseries featuring Frank Castle in his first tour in 'Nam is in production.

Goran Parlov shared this morning a sketch of this long awaited series.

For those who don't know Parlov and Ennis will join forces again to take on the character, a great creative team to give us once again the Frank Castle we love, the original, the Vietnam bad ass.

PC POST #330: -REVIEW- Doctor Strange / The Punisher: Magic Bullets #2

Last week it was released issue two of this miniseries that belongs to a new wave of Punisher "Infinite Comics" ( Only digital, for now).

Last issue Frank search for Doctor Strange help on dealing with demonic monsters that were in the mafia restaurant he attacked.

Most of this issue Frank tries to persuade Doctor Strange ( who wants to help) but in some odd way shows some resistance to Frank's invitation.

While in the Fusilli's restaurant looks like some sort of "hotspot" for demonic monsters, a new character appears, Mangrove aka Doctor Hurt. He is the man who will leech the powers of those demonic beasts and transfer it to the Fusilli's brothers.

The Punisher in this story is clearly out of the picture, dealing with demonic beasts is more Strange's department. But i'm curious to see what will happen.

John Barber took the time to explore a bit more of the story, while the cliffhanger we see in the end of the comic give us a hint, that issue #3 will give us the expected fight between the Sorcerer Supreme and the One Man Army against those supernatural beasts.

The art of Andrea Broccardo still has the same quality (great) has we seen in the past issue. My only complaint is the colorful issue but that's the department of Andrew Crossley.

I think this comic should be darker, specially because of the theme.

Barber and Broccardo continue to give us a good ride. The pace of the story did slow down a bit but it was necessary for exploring a bit more of the story.

And despite that this isn't Frank's business, i'm looking forward to see what John Barber will do with character while facing these supernatural threats.

PC POST #329: -REVIEW- Doctor Strange / The Punisher: Magic Bullets #1

Another initiative featuring the Punisher in Infinite Comics. Last time it featured Daredevil and Punisher fighting about their beliefs.

This time it features Doctor Strange and Punisher written by John Barber ( Optimus Prime, Ultimate Spider-Man infinite comics, etc...) and as artist, Andrea Broccardo.

This team up between Doctor Strange and the Punisher happened a few times before and most of the times it worked despite all the differences among the characters.

-Contain some spoilers-

The first issue was some sort of introduction of both characters. The Punisher part is full of action when we see him taking down the Fusilli's mob.

Great dynamic in every action scene and Frank was perfectly portrayed on how he took care of the goons.

During this attack. Frank take notice that the mob members are defending a "door" but he doesn't know what it is behind it. He breaks it down and we do not see what comes next. After this we see Doctor Strange introduction until the last pages we see Frank asking for Strange's help.

This was a very entertaining issue with a many action and it was a great experience using this"infinite comics" format.

The panels were very dynamic and so far, due to the action of this comic, it was better experience than Daredevil / The Punisher issue #1.

John Barber told a very simplistic plot with the Punisher (more is to be revealed next issue). But it was entertained enough to keep me hooked for the next issue. There wasn't nothing more to tell about the Punisher in this issue aside from the bullets and corpses all over the issue.

John Barber and Andrea Broccardo did a great job in constructing this issue. Both storytelling and artwork were perfectly sync. 

Andrea's art was very decent in this issue, despite all the colorful issue. I like the Punisher comics to be as dark as possible, but it didn't waste all the fun. Andrea's is a good artist i think that we haven't seen anything yet. We haven't seen all his capacities.
