PC POST #255: -ARTICLE- Essential Punisher & Daredevil

After the great feedback all over the web about the casting of Jon Bernthal as the next Punisher, i remembered to do an article that could help all the fans of the show, know a little bit more about their relationship.

To me the upcoming books are essential to know about this two characters, what are their motivations and what separate them, specially about how they deal with crime.

CHILD'S PLAY

Daredevil #182-#184

This books marks the first time these two characters met each other. By the writer Frank Miller and the artist Klaus Janson this classic story marks one of the best written between these two character.
And it could fit perfectly in the upcoming season 2 of Daredevil.

Both characters are tracking down who is poisoning the kids with a new drug called "Angel Dust", Frank Miller not only explores the motivations of these two characters as he show us how different they are when it comes to fighting crime.

THE CREEP/ THE BULLY

Punisher #10 / Daredevil #257

Another great story written by Mike Baron ( Punisher) and Ann Nocenti ( Daredevil).

These books explores the two points of view of both characters in their book. Again both Baron and Nocenti explored flawlessly the differences between these characters and their morals when they are fighting crime.

The story is about an ex-employee of a pharmaceutical laboratory that is killing people with an aspiryn produced by his last firm. His nickname was "Aspirin Killer".
Another great arc that could fit the Daredevil tv series and it's a must have for fans of both characters.

The funny thing is that this story was covered decades after by Greg Rucka in his Punisher run.

Artwork by John Romita Jr. (1988)

Artwork by Marco Chechetto (2012)

DAREDEVIL VS PUNISHER: MEANS AND ENDS

Daredevil vs Punisher: Means and Ends #1-#6 (2005)

Another great example of the stories that could be imported to Daredevil netflix series, this one is one of my favorites almost at the same level as the Frank Miller story. This one was written, drawed and colored by David Lapham.

Means and Ends is so good because of the great plot and how it mixes other characters from Marvel Universe into this storyline like the Hammerhead, The Jackal and Bushwacker.

Hammerhead and Jackal took over the New York criminal empire while Kingpin is in jail. While Daredevil is trying to gather evidences to put these characters in jail, on the otherside is the Punisher trying to destroy them and put them down for good.
Another great arc the show us the contrast between these two characters and an epic fight at the end of this issue that is nothing less than LEGENDARY.

MARVEL KNIGHTS

Marvel Knights 1-15 (2000)

Now for change a little bit this is a good example how they can work together when it's needed... If Frank can "work" in a team, this one makes sense.
The Punisher was always the wildcard but it worked and Chuck Dixon make everything work like a swiss watch.
Great stories written by Chuck Dixon that gave us a gritty and realistic tone within the Marvel Universe.

I would like to see a tv series based in Marvel Knights.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Omega Effect 3 part event: Avenging Spider-Man #6 / Punisher #10 and Daredevil #11

This arc was really good, it was a three part event that both characters wanted to defend the Omega Drive from terrorist organizations in Marvel Universe.

The Punisher wanted to keep it, because this device has vital information from the top criminal empire operating in marvel universe like HYDRA and A.I.M. The Punisher with this kind of intel would put these organizations down for good.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN TEAM UP #09-10

Another great story that we see both Daredevil and Punisher working very well in a common objective. This storyline isn't the Spider-Man we all know, it's Doctor Octopus that possessed his mind and has control of his body.

Superior Spider-Man was betrayed in his own "organization" and the Punisher is looking for his custom glyder. Very entertaining story by David Yost and the wonderful artwork by Marco Checchetto.

PC POST #194: -REVIEWS-SSM Team up #10 & Thunderbolts #22

posted by @ivomgs

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN TEAM UP #10
-REVIEW-

(W)Kevin Shinick(A)Marco Chechetto
Spock ( Spider-Man/Doc Ock) isn't dealing really well with the betrayal in his own nest. He was suprise by most of his henchmen suround him and wanted to kill him.

Daredevil and Punisher are helping him to survive.

Like the previous issue Frank is very active on this one and do what he does best... killing scum. I really liked this portrayed Frank from Shinick. He's a talker like in Edmondson run and like his ongoing Frank got charisma.

There are a lots of good moments like Frank shooting Spidey's henchmen blind by a flash grenade and specially when he recover "his" glider (very well equipped with government missile drones and with a skull on the center) and destroyed a giant spider robot built by Spock. He saved both Daredevil and Spider-Man to be drowned.

Marco Checchetto really did like always a great job in this issue. He's one of my favorite Punisher artists for the moment.

OVERALL RATING: 4 / 5

THUNDERBOLTS #22

Thunderbolts are in Hell making deals with Mephisto to get out of there and give a new home to Mercy. But they have something to do first take out Guido from the throne of king of Hell... While Punisher and Elektra are fighting a brutal Mercy asking questions about the rest of the crew!

Since this new arc began we can see that major improvements have been made in this book. Not only Charles Soule writing is more solid and the artwork has been really good since Barberi is on board.
Don't know why but normally last issues of the arcs written by Soule it happens that i like them a lot and this one it's another of that issues!

I was expecting a bit more from the fight with Rulk and Guido (aka Strong Guy). Yeah he is a good guy, but i thought i would seen a brutal fight between these two.
While some are fighting in Hell others(Punisher & Elektra) are fighting for their lives when they are facing Mercy. This battle was really good.

Great turn of events when Mephisto was completely owned by the Leader's when he make some important changes in the deal and saved the day... Mercy was pulled to hell and Deadpool recovers an interesting feather that restored Frank's health when he was about to losing his life due to the beat he received from Mercy and to take most of the damaged when he and Elektra fall down due to Mercy disappearence to Hell.

Interesting homage that Soule make to a certain Punisher run...

I think i'm beggining to understand this book a lot better and this was definetely a lot better than the previous issues.

OVERALL ISSUE RATING: 4 / 5

ARC RATING: 3.5 / 5

PC POST #152 - Avenging Spider-Man #22 Review

WRITERS: Christopher Yost
ARTIST: David Lopez
COLOR ARTIST: Rachelle Rosenberg
LETTERS: VC’s Joe Caramagna
COVER: Paolo Rivera
EDITOR: Stephen Wacker
EDITOR IN CHIEF: Axel Alonso
CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER: Joe Quesada
PUBLISHER: Dan Buckley
EXEC. PRODUCER: Alan Fine

Release Date: July 12th, 2013
Published monthly by Marvel Worldwide, INC.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Price – $3.99

WRITING:

I have personally read every single issue of Avenging Spider-Man. It has been not only an enjoyable read as the Amazing and Superior companion book for Spidey but it has also stood completely on it's own. Being completely formulaic in it's approach of one and done style stories Yost has kept readers engaged every step of the way. Even with all the changes that have happened this past year with our favorite web-crawler Yost hasn't lost a step in his continuity of the story he is telling. It is sad that Avenging is now coming to a close but it is exciting to know that Yost will continue to write Spider-Man in an upcoming team-up series. We will see if that is a successful as AVS-M has been.

In this particular issue however, Yost beautiful calls back Frank Castle and Parker's past by exposing a conflict of the two heroes attempting to take down the same villain. Yost plays on the changes that Spider-Man has gone through to allow for both Spidey and Castle to see eye to eye...possibly for the first time ever.

Rating – “A-”

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this title by Lopez is mediocre. It doesn't live up to the work that has been done on past AVS-M titles, which is a letdown. The cover calls back to vintage comic days which is a plus but the actual action and dialogue seems seem to be lacking quite a bit.

Rating – “B-”

STORY:

(WARNING – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

This issue's premise is simple. Spider-Man is bored. He has come to the point technologically where he can pick and choose in advance the type of crime he fights. One particular crime, a bank robbery, interests him and he discovers in the process that there is an imposter mysterio running the streets. In the process of trying to take the imposter down he runs into the Punisher, who is trying to kill the villain. This forces Spidey and Castle into a confrontation where Spidey admits that he now understands the reasons for what Punisher does and will allow him to continue in them as long as Castle stays out of his way. Castle takes note of this revelation in his War Journal and comments that if Spidey ever crosses the "line" that he will come after Spider-Man himself. This to me could set up some really good future conflicts between these two characters who have a long history.

Rating – “A-“

ENTERTAINMENT VALUE:

This issue has intrigue, action and relationships that have developed over decades. It is great to see the Punisher cross paths with Spider-Man again and to see the reaction Castle has when Spider-Man says that he now understands the Punisher.

Rating – “A”

OVERAL RATING OF ISSUE:  “B+"

PC POST #131: Punisher Kills Marvel Universe (Battles Review)

posted by @Ivo

Punisher Kills Marvel Universe
-Battles review by a Punisher fan-

Well first of all i'm a Punisher fan. But i don't consider myself  fanboy or anyone who could not face facts.
So i will review the most controversy fights in this "What If..." story.

To begin with i like the Garth Ennis Punisher but this one seems a bit edgy for my taste but this story was very entertaining and funny to read but i think that some character are a bit underated.

For everyone who didn't read this story it's in an alternate world when Frank's family were killed by the superheroes while they were fighting with the Skrull and Brood alien races. His family was just caught in the crossfire...

Punisher vs Cyclops

The Punisher could hand Cyclops in this situation, because Cyclops wouldn't expect that Castle could react this way and if Castle could draw fast enough (which i believe so) he could shot Cyclops.
Castle wins by the element of surprise. I will brand this as Believable.

Right after shooting Cyclops, Castle attacks the other group of superheroes... In this image i see Hawkeye and Jubilee been shot, once again they were suprised by Castle actions. Believable.

Punisher vs Spider-Man and Venom

The only doubt i got in here is with Spider-Man if he could have been knocked out like Venom without a doubt the Punisher could kill him. I think Spidey could react more faster and prevent the Punisher from killing him instead of asking questions. So, for Venom death is Believable and Spider-Man Not Believable.

Punisher vs Hulk

This is one of the most realistic deaths of a superhero in this comic, there is nothing to add the images explain itself. Frank put a tracer in the Hulk and awaited for Banner turn to his human self and then shot him. Believable.

Punisher vs Kingpin

Kingpin's got an incredible strenght but he is human and he is no match for bullets. Believable.

Punisher vs Dr.Doom

This one is a little difficult for me to decide, i can see the Punisher using a magnetic mine to explode Dr.Doom's face but how could he find the real Doom? I can see Doom underestimating Frank and face him by himself so i will brand this one as Believable.

Punisher vs Mutants

First of all Frank got himself a nuke in Latveria when he beat Dr.Doom. I can see him sending an invite for both factions "good" and "bad" mutants they could smell some sort of trap but they always go looking for it. But if this meeting were on the Moon, they should be in some sort of building for them to breathe, i don't believe they were in an open space. So i will go with the logical explanation, they were in an controled environment. Believable.

Punisher vs Wolverine

Frank found Wolverine drinking and wailing for his buddies and friends deaths. I don't know if the "state" drunk affects Wolverine even so i don't believe Frank could handle this guy hand to hand so easily, he is superior in strenght and definetley he couldn't just frying him and go away. To kill Wolverine he would need a Muramasa blade, drowning him, sending him into space without suit or probably throw him into a vulcano. I think Garth should had write this one a little better. By frying Wolverine, sooner his healing factor would kick in and he would be on his feet. Not Believable.

Punisher vs Captain America

This one is a bit controversial too, i'm not a fan of Captain America and Frank got a point by comparing 'Nam with WW2. 'Nam was dirtier. Everyone knows that Frank works alone so i don't believe that Cap would have fall for this cheap trick. Frank stashing the weapon without Cap's notice, yes. Turning his back on Frank definetely not. Not Believable.

Punisher vs Daredevil

Finally the last hero remain... Daredevil. When the Punisher found Daredevil he got himself beaten up. Daredevil is more agile and his inner senses are very sharp he moves like a ninja this battle couldn't have been won by hand to hand combat. Bullets weren't enough to stop him so Frank used his last resort and stab Daredevil. He was definetely surprised or he could avoid this. Believable.

And this is it guys, i hope you have enjoy it. Feel free to comment here, Facebook or twitter .

PC POST #119: Punisher War Zone #4 Review

posted by @ivomgs

Finally!! And sorry for not doing this review sooner but we passed some "technical" difficulties already solved and this kind of delay would not happen again.

So let's get back to the business, shall we?

War Zone #4 Review

(W)Rucka
(A) Di Giandomenico

STORY (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS): After Thor left Frank thinking on his acts and fly way, Frank's decided to rescue sargeant Cole Alves and goes back to New York. While the Avengers try to antecipate his moves.
While Frank is in New York he finds a drug lab kill some guys inside and threatened other two give them two punisher vests.
Other cool stuff we see in this story is that Frank manages to find a security breach in Stark building and while Tony is working in some "prison" to Frank he didn't notice that Frank's is right behind him. He takes out Iron Man's suit and goes to criminal courtroom to rescue Cole Alves hitting Spider-Man with a blast while he were secure the area, meanwhile Steve Rogers and Natasha ( disguised as Cole Alves) tried to set up Frank and they got ambushed by the two guys (from the drug lab) dressed as the Punisher after some shooting Natasha captures them.

RATING: 4/5

WRITING: Rucka's has built a strong story besides this ultra-fast paced limited series don't seem to be his style but it is very well built and very solid. Rucka's accustomed us with high quality writing and he developed a Punisher i haven't seen for a long time.. This is the Punisher i want to see in comic books.
He is tactically brilliant and very calculating, this guy thinks and not act by impulse.

RATING:5/5

ART: Right now i'm accostumed to Di Giandomenico's art, sometimes his drawing seems sloppy but in this issue he improved comparing to the previous. Hollingsworth is doing a great job at the pencillers part, great colours and give to the characters and ambience some livid images.

RATING:3/5

ENTERTAINING VALUE: As i said before Rucka as built a strong character to a great story. Personally i wish this story never ended because i will definetely miss his writing on my favorite character. This limited series in my opinion is with the right pace i like fast paced stories specially with a character like the Punisher. I would like to see some detail in Frank's invading Stark building but i believe Rucka has to compress some details and skip forward. Tony will explain in the next issue.

RATING: 5/5
