PC POST #365: [Spoilers SE#7] Why the Punisher joined HYDRA explained with SCANS.

[This article contains spoilers for Secret Empire #7]

"WHY"?
This was the question many Punisher fans did when they saw the Punisher saying "Hail Hydra" for the first time.
Today that question was answered in the most "dumbest" way possible.

When Black Widow was ready to assassinate Steve Rogers, the Punisher intercepted her and both started fighting each other. For those who are going to read it's a great set of panels with both characters changing fists, kicks among other things. Great action.

Here comes the trouble, I don't believe for a moment that the Punisher would want his family back and see him in what he's become. And I wouldn't believe that after the Cube setting things up, Frank Castle would settle down, put the skull in the closet and living happily with his family for the rest of their lives.

No.

I would've preferred on seeing Frank brainwashed (again!), or this being an impostor, then seeing such bad writing.

The Punisher wouldn't have joined HYDRA and betray what he represents to all crime, especially this super powered criminal organization.

Even if it was asked by Steve Rogers.

PC POST #218 - REVIEW: PUNISHER #9

PUNISHER #9 REVIEW

Review by: Neil Byce, aka @Neil4LOST

*WARNING* This review may contain spoilers for this specific issue.

I will just come right out of the gate and say it...Punisher #9 was a big disappointment for me.

I have been patiently waiting for this series to take off and I had pretty high hopes with the first few issues but over the course of the past few issues I have found it more and more difficult to enjoy this series and to understand the direction/approach that Edmondson and Marvel are taking the character in..

Edmondson writes Frank Castle in this issue as more of a self-doubting character than ever before and he uncharacteristically talks Black Widow out of shooting a guy for information. When I saw this happen the first thing I thought was...this isn't the Punisher I know! My anticipation of a showdown with Crossbones went unsatisfied and ultimately Frank ends up in a prison for no apparent reason...really that is a summary of this issue.

Gerads art continues to be solid and is something that I enjoy in the book but the writing style and the decisions of how to deliver the story puzzle me. Two issues ago I felt that Edmondson was building a long-term or slow-burn story here that would pay off really well but as of this point I just don't see it happening. There is a large amount of random devices being thrown together as well as coincidence and I can only suspend my disbelief for so long.

In conclusion, I typically like crossover events and think that they add substance to stories like the Punisher but this one left me scratching my head. Unless I am missing something big here...which I very well could be, I am going to go ahead and say that I think that this issue was the weakest so far in the series.

Do you agree or disagree with me? Leave your comments in the thread below!

OVERALL SCORE 5.5 out of 10

Next issue will be again reviewed by Ivo.

PC POST #217: -REVIEW- Black Widow #9

posted by Ivo Santos (twitter/facebook)

I haven't been following this book but since the Punisher is in it i will do a short review...

It was a pleaseant issue well written by Edmondson, it was very interesting to see Punisher and Black Widow they were never partners in this uncommon encounter, each one of them got his own mission. Widow wanted intel on Chaos and Punisher escaped from the plane and wanted to kill every goon that belonged to Crossbones and get back to L.A.

There is a great fighting scene with Black Widow and Crossbones, very well written and Phil Noto did a pretty good job on the details of her movements and fluidity in combat.

I like Phil Noto's artwork and i've seen it in Thunderbolts, but i think it lacks a bit of vivid colors, in my opinion.

In this issue ( i don't know what happened in past issues...) but Widow seemed a bit edgy while interrogating a chinese mechanic of the ship, and guess what Frank stopped her for almost kill this man. At this point she was more punisher than Punisher. But it was good seeing Frank with a good word of advice to her.

OVERALL RATE: 7 / 10

PC POST #205: Punisher & Black Widow Crossover

posted by @ivomgs

The skull and the spider will finally meet according to the latest interview by Nathan Edmondson on CBR.

In way this wasn't a big surprise at all, since Edmondson is the writer of both titles, this crossover will be told in both Frank perspective ( Punisher #9) and Natasha's (Black Widow #9) so there will be slightly differences in the way both titles will be told. Mitch Gerads will continue his work on Punisher and Phil Noto will continue as the Black Widow main artist.

To enjoy the full experience of this crossover we have to pick both titles!

Excelent sales maneuver by Marvel but in a way this will bring both BW fans and Punisher fans to get each other titles and maybe boost the sales.

PC POST #198: -REVIEW- Marvel's Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher

REVIEW(may contain spoilers) by @ivomgs

Well in overall i like it. It's way better than Technovore in every way... Animation, action and plotwise more interesting.

The Frank that is present in this book is a bit of sort of Ennis and Rucka's. He didn't talk too much and when he talks he is really straigh forward with much words as needed.

Unfortunately he is a bit one dimensional character and sometimes a bit "short sighted" for the "whole picture" that was this movie all about.

The other thing i didn't like at all and almost ruined it for me is that once again they used the Punisher (brainwashed) to kill a few SHIELD (innocent) guards... I'm tired of producers/writers using Frank for this stuff over and over again.

It could be more interesting if they used Black Widow instead of the Punisher, since her "weaponry" it's less lethal than the Punisher.

I like to see the Punisher in most of the scenes with the exception i mentioned above. He gots plenty of spotlight in this movie as one of the main character and he uses a lot of stealth, hand to hand fight (really good) and the classic shoot em up. It was really a pleasure to see finally the Punisher in action in a animation film.

This story in my opinion was more centered in Black Widow than in the Punisher. The only reason that Frank was on board was to capture Cain. The main villain only appeared in the end of this film and i didn't care about him, the only good thing is that Frank put him out for good with a good sequence of action scenes.

OVERAL RATING: 3.5 / 5

PC POST #185: TRAILER: Black Widow & Punisher animated film.

posted by @Ivo

MARVEL'S  AVENGERS CONFIDENTIAL: BLACK WIDOW & PUNISHER

“After interfering with a top secret mission, The Punisher is taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and Avenger Black Widow. At the orders of Director Nick Fury, Punisher and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop Leviathan, a global terrorist organization that plans to sell stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. technology to the highest bidder. Now, the vigilante and spy must work together to prevent this technology from falling into the wrong hands. The fate of the world, and of the Avengers, hangs in the balance.”
Marvel’s Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher hits Blu-ray, DVD, and digital March 25.
After a year of waiting finally Marvel launched this animated film. It's the same guys from Rise of Technovore. The animation seems really nice and fluid. I hope the story can be better than the last movie.

PC POST #137: Iron Man: Rise of Technovore (Review)

posted by @Ivo

Hello everyone, i will divide this review in two parts. I will begin to review the movie itself on the first part and second i will talk about Frank's appearence.

Iron Man: Rise of Technovore review

First of all by the trailers i've seen, i really got thrilled by the coming of this animation but it was kind of a let down and i will explain why.

Tony Stark is launching a new satellite named Howard. The objective of this satellite is to watch the entire planet and look for suspected criminal behavior for the appropriate can prevent crimes. But this launch is interrupted by a super villain and like Tony this guy got a suit too, his suit is made of some sort of biomechanical in nature. This biomechanical suit (named Technovore) bests Iron Man and War Machine in battle and all the fuss this battle created caughts the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D.
S.H.I.E.L.D want to know more about this Technovore guy and detain  Tony because is kind of obssessed with him and want to revenge is friend War Machine ( When they fought Technovore, Tony thought that War Machine were dead). They couldn't handle with Iron Man and they sent his best agents to handle him Hawkeye and Black Widow.

This guy Ezekiel Stane the "owner" of this Technovore suit is a superior kid with some bad philosophical nonsense which he talks about most of his screen time. He is son of a former villain of Iron Man, Obadiah Stane he is dead right know and when we take these conclusions at first we thought that Ezekiel may want to take revenge but no, he hated his father.

This movie itself was below average, bad dialogue and too much brightness. They could use a bit more of some capabilities of the Howard satellite but they didn't matter to use it.

The best part for me were the Punisher appearence it was the best eleven minutes of this animation. Frank helps Iron Man to get rid of Hawkeye and Black Widow the action weren't mind blowing but it was cool.
The voice acting of Frank ( Norman Reedus) was good and the character itself was well represented in this animation.

The Punisher and Iron Man encountered together because they were after some weapons dealers in the middle eastern and Iron Man was looking for some clues about Technovore. The Punisher helped Tony with some hints about Ezekiel.

Meanwhile the S.H.I.E.L.D. trace them and sent Hawkeye and Black Widow to capture them. Iron Man got hit by some arrows of Hawkeye's and get his suit jammed. While submitted by BW and Hawkeye, the Punisher helped him with a grenade and Iron Man fall in the roof of his car and they flee.

BW and H. chase them and make the Punisher's car foil. The Punisher tries to gain some time and throw them a flash grenade and try to submit them. (while Iron Man fully recharges his batteries because of the damage of the arrows of Hawkeye). He couldn't stand too much against them but it was enough for Iron Man recharged and flew away. In the next panel we see Frank in a motorcycle (the one that was used by BW and H. to pursue him) and getting away. ( don't understand why they let him go).

PC POST #119: Punisher War Zone #4 Review

posted by @ivomgs

Finally!! And sorry for not doing this review sooner but we passed some "technical" difficulties already solved and this kind of delay would not happen again.

So let's get back to the business, shall we?

War Zone #4 Review

(W)Rucka
(A) Di Giandomenico

STORY (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS): After Thor left Frank thinking on his acts and fly way, Frank's decided to rescue sargeant Cole Alves and goes back to New York. While the Avengers try to antecipate his moves.
While Frank is in New York he finds a drug lab kill some guys inside and threatened other two give them two punisher vests.
Other cool stuff we see in this story is that Frank manages to find a security breach in Stark building and while Tony is working in some "prison" to Frank he didn't notice that Frank's is right behind him. He takes out Iron Man's suit and goes to criminal courtroom to rescue Cole Alves hitting Spider-Man with a blast while he were secure the area, meanwhile Steve Rogers and Natasha ( disguised as Cole Alves) tried to set up Frank and they got ambushed by the two guys (from the drug lab) dressed as the Punisher after some shooting Natasha captures them.

RATING: 4/5

WRITING: Rucka's has built a strong story besides this ultra-fast paced limited series don't seem to be his style but it is very well built and very solid. Rucka's accustomed us with high quality writing and he developed a Punisher i haven't seen for a long time.. This is the Punisher i want to see in comic books.
He is tactically brilliant and very calculating, this guy thinks and not act by impulse.

RATING:5/5

ART: Right now i'm accostumed to Di Giandomenico's art, sometimes his drawing seems sloppy but in this issue he improved comparing to the previous. Hollingsworth is doing a great job at the pencillers part, great colours and give to the characters and ambience some livid images.

RATING:3/5

ENTERTAINING VALUE: As i said before Rucka as built a strong character to a great story. Personally i wish this story never ended because i will definetely miss his writing on my favorite character. This limited series in my opinion is with the right pace i like fast paced stories specially with a character like the Punisher. I would like to see some detail in Frank's invading Stark building but i believe Rucka has to compress some details and skip forward. Tony will explain in the next issue.

RATING: 5/5

PC POST #117: War Zone #5 Preview

posted by @ivomgs

Damn, i'm too divided to explain how i feel about this issue... I'm glad it's finally here but in some way it's sad that this powerful run will end in a couple of days. Greg Rucka is doing a great job developing the Punisher, one of the best (if not the best) i've seen in years. In my opinion Marvel didn't do the best move to cancel this title, but who am i?
