PC POST #284: -REVIEW- The Dead Can't Be Distracted (Punisher fan film)

Last time i talked about this fan film was back on May 2013.

Short story: Right about the time Mike Pecci was publishing this project and got the praise from the media, Marvel decided to closed down this project and threatened Pecci's with their lawyers if he published to the public. Check out the full story here.

What was interesting in one part of the answer from Marvel was this...

“YOUR ACTIONS CONFUSE CONSUMERS INTO BELIEVING THAT THEY ARE VIEWING AN AUTHENTIC MARVEL PRODUCTION OR ONE SPONSORED OR LICENSED BY MARVEL, WHEN THEY ARE NOT.”

And they were right, this project was good and way better than anything by hollywood or fan made i've seen so far.

First of all i'm honored to be one of the chosen to watch this fan film and i have to thank to Mike Pecci's for this opportunity.

TDCBD fan film was basically based in Rucka's run more precisely on issue #12, this fan film has only 4 minutes and the main dialogue between Frank and Rachel is based on what we saw in that comic. Frank teaching her that "the dead can't be distracted" by the luxuries of the living.

Clearly Pecci's gave his touch in most of the scenes, transitions, the feel, the colors and the soundtrack.

The fan film begins with Frank (Nick Apostolides) painting his vest while narrating... "I've been where you are. That rage. That confusion". And we see Rachel (Evalena Marie) pointing his gun and shooting. Frank continues to painting and narrating. "It steals focus. Steals reason". And we see Rachel shooting until she's out of bullets. Frank's continues to talk "And unless it can be governed, it will steal your life too". And the title of the film appear and we see the armory with a great 80's music behind it.

Next scene is in the table, Frank tells Rachel to empty her pockets, he picks and chooses what is useful and what's not, just like the comic. In between this dialogue we see some transitions with Frank and Rachel.
After the lecturing we see Rachel covered in blood and in the shower like some sort of "rebirth" washing away all the blood in her, next scene we see her burning her wedding photo with her husband.

The film ends with Frank and Rachel on a elevator ready for action.

The cast was amazing, Nick Apostolides nailed as Frank Castle. His posture, his voice and the presence it was all there, it's the Punisher i imagined while reading Greg Rucka's run.

Evalena Marie was amazing, aside from her beauty, she captured flawlessly Rachel Cole-Alves, while seeing her you could "sense" her rage through her eyes and posture while shooting the gun in the beginning. Just too perfect casting.

Mike Pecci is a genius, he directed this film in the better way possible. The colors and the tone was all there i could see Netflix "vibe" in it. This was an adaptation from the comic but he gave his own touch to it, it couldn't be better due to the circumstances.
The soundtrack just nailed it, i really like 80's music the main theme was done by Kristine feat. Power Glove - Modern Love (Remix).

Before i watch this, i was expecting some action with Frank and Rachel but no, in the end i didn't care for guns blazing. I would rather liked to see Frank with a huge "depth" lecturing Rachel on how to get away from mundane distractions than the usual shoot em up scenes we are used to see. And in the end i got a sense of relief because there are people in the world that can make a good Punisher on screen. And Pecci is one of those people.

I have seen many fan films but this was without a doubt the best i've seen. Mike Pecci is a pro, he used his resources and skills to make this happen and did it, and in my opinion it scared Marvel. That's why they closed down this project. It's a shame, because it would satisfy the Punisher fans in way that could only be compared when Dirty Laundry was released.

PC POST #214: -REVIEW- RED HOOD vs PUNISHER

Finally the wait is over and these last months waiting for this episode to be released it really paid off!

First of all this battle was decided by the fans, there is no scientific explanation for the final result but i will give my opinion not only about the production in this short fan film but on what i think the final result is right.

This is my opinion so don't bother on ranting the comments box.

First of all, i really loved how dedicated Kevin Porter (Punisher) and Rich Manly (Red Hood) have represented their roles both are really talented and gave an extra boost of quality to this episode.

SPBD and Bat in the Sun crew are really improving each video they launch, not only on film making (special effects, fighting choreography, etc..) but all the attention they spare almost everyday to the fans. They know that fans are the fuel of this big machine and as long as the fuel doesn't end this project has everything to be succeded. The only "down" is the long wait for each episode but they always have delivered quality on each episode. Wonderful work Aaron Schoenke and all the staff!

At this point you probably have seen the film and you know that the Punisher was the last man standing. As all of you know i'm a big fan of the Punisher but i'm also a fan of Red Hood.

In this fan film Kevin Porter and Rich Manly caught the personalities of both characters flawlessly. The Punisher with more straight forward lines and Red Hood with his natural attitude always taunt the Punisher.

The fight scenes specially choreography felt natural and i didn't saw anything that these characters wouldn't do in a comic book. The Punisher through his body built more simple moves and direct and Red Hood with more agile and fast moves ( really loved the walk on the wall). I was expecting a bit more of knife fighting from both characters since both are very skilled at using them. Due to the time limit of this fan film i bet BitS crew would have wanted to try other things like using a bit more of the enviornment "tools" but it was clearly that they had to compile this episode to the essential and add a bit of everything.

I loved the background soundtrack, Sean Schoenke did a great job on producing it. Like he did on the last episode with White Ranger vs Scorpion, my favorite music.

In my opinion the Punisher was a fair winner of this showdown. He isn't as skilled as Red Hood in hand to hand combat even if he is master of several martial arts like Nash Ryu Jiu Jitsu, Hwarang Do, Shorin Ryu Karate and Chin Na and also trained Ninjitsu with the Shadowmasters. Even with this argument i think experience prevailed over martial art skills (I'm guessing this is pre-52 Red Hood without all the magic stuff he is been into with the All-Caste nowadays).

The Punisher is far more experienced in fighting crime than Red Hood and all the argument that is used over the web that he was trained under Batman it's important, i know, but in this case Frank has more than 20 years of crime fighting and all the experience he gather through his missions did pay off.

The Punisher was like a powerhouse in this film due to the excelent physical shape of Kevin Porter, i didn't saw that the Punisher was in disadvantage in any moment in this film. Every strike he delivered to Red Hood was like he was hit by a train. I couldn't have expected a better ending. Even if the result was different with all the respect both characters had in this film, i would be happy.

Final Note: If you can produce another fan film, make these characters team up to take out a common threat, i bet you will do a wonderful job and people would love it. Think about it!

There is a new Punisher fan film on the way and the new Punisher will be Kevin Porter!

Kevin Porter has taken the role of Batman in various projects.

There isn't many details about this upcoming fan film for now we know that is nothing to do with Bat in the Sun productions or Super Power Beat Down as i initially thought...

Ignore the facial hair.

For the brief talk i had with Kevin, this is his own interpretation of the character and the costume Kevin picked the "classic" because of Punisher earlier appearences designed by John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru. We will stay alert for any developments regarding this fan film.

PC POST #169: Punisher: No Mercy fan film + REVIEW

REVIEW

Finally the long wait is over! And you know what... I like it very much!

This movie is basically a classic Punisher story, Frank is after some mobsters and wants to destroy their nest. 

It is a very simple plot and a huge Garth Ennis feel through the entire film and at the end we know this was made by fans for the fans, this team put a lot of love through all this fan film and i thank them for all this effort with minimum resources. This film just show to the Big Studios that it's possible to make a great Punisher movie.

Let's talk about the Punisher, Shawn Baichoo did a good work personifying the character, despite all of the critics i have seen in this blog, he captured flawlessly the psych of the character. I don't care if he is baldy or skinny. To me the Punisher is more than a simple man, it doesn't matter if he is skinny or fat, long hair or baldy. It's someone that sacrificed a pieceful life for a mission, waging a war for those who deserve it. This is a fan film and i don't care about the physical differences if the actor portrayed the psych of the character flawlessly. The shooting scene was really good, plenty of action and very well choreographed.

I liked how Amber Goldfarb portrayed Elektra, she did it great! She is really beautiful and her hand-to-hand combat pleased me, she behaved liked a real assassin.

During the combat with Amber, Shawn Baichoo did a great job by showing some simple and effective movements, remembering me that Frank was once great fighter and not only a marksmanship. For moments i was afraid for seeing some fancy movements for the "show" but he did not fall for this error. Gladly. Although he could use more the surroundings to give more "pain" to Elektra... Maybe next time.

Many thanks for J. Ambrus, Baichoo, Goldfarb, Malloch, Caltabiano ( Excelent Vinny Rizzo) and all the staff in this fan film, i really hope to see a sequel in the future.

For those who aren't aware of this fanmade movie, Mcfarland & Pecci are working on a fanfilm based and inspired in the Punisher run of Greg Rucka. We can see in the teaser that Sargeant Cole Alves will be in this movie too by the visuals and the storyline this fanmade movie has everything to make success after "Dirty Laundry" by Thomas Jane.

PC POST #129: Batman Vs Punisher(short fight)

Hello everyone, i will dedicate this post to a short fight that was design by kazemanimate. In this fight will be featured Batman and Punisher.

This is not based on any adaptation comic, just the greatest detective vs. marvel deadliest vigilante.

Subscribe his channel and like the video, kazemanimate has said that when he reach a good sum of "likes" and viewers he will add Nightwing and Daredevil in this fight. This could be so epic!

PC POST #126: Thomas Jane Interview for ETonline!

Yesterday ETonline, has publish an interview with Thomas Jane and he talked about the Punisher movie from 2004 and his recent fan film "Dirty Laundry".

ETonline: Well, you shouldn't take it as anyone saying, "We'd appreciate if you could stop acting now." It's more of a celebration of the work. Especially The Punisher, which has become something of a cult classic in recent years.
Jane: Yes, I've heard that from a lot of people. I'm happy the movie has real fans out there.

ETonline: When was the last time you watched it?
Jane: I've never really seen the whole thing. I usually sneak out of my premieres; go in the front door and right out the back [laughs]. I'm not a fan of watching my work. When I was a young actor, I watched myself so I could figure out what kind of animal I was. Billy Bob Thornton told me every actor needs to figure out what kind of animal they are so they can be that animal, but I don't think I've figured that out yet. I guess I want to be all the animals.

ETonline: What do you recall from making The Punisher?
Jane: It was hard, but rewarding. We didn't have any problems making the movie, although we tried to make Tampa look as menacing as it could ... which was troubling at times. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time in Florida, but creatively I wasn't a fan of making The Punisher in Florida. I never thought that went together very well. I thought there were better places for us to shoot the thing, but once I was down there, everyone was so great.

ETonline: Last year you reprised the role in a super dark online short, Dirty Laundry (watch below). What fueled that?
Jane: I'd been talking about my vision of The Punisher for years, and I finally hit on the idea of a short film that could show people my ideas. Then it became about finding the perfect guys to bring that vision to life, for me, the ideal guy was Phil Joanou. I happened to have met him a few months prior to landing on this idea, so he was the first guy I called. He really got on board. Chad St. John wrote my favorite script I've ever read called Motor City, which was basically a 100 page action film with no dialogue. It was a piece of brilliance, so we hatched what became Dirty Laundry, which was very satisfying because I didn't have to explain very much what I was talking about. We all liked the same stuff, had the same reference points and it was a great lesson for me. The success of it was vindicating. It felt good that my version of the character resonated with people.

ETonline: Can you envision playing Frank Castle ever again?
Jane: It was sort of my farewell to the character. I just wanted to get that out.
