Earlier today Marvel announced a new Punisher run coming up in August. 1st. The news couldn't be better. Matthew Rosenberg will be at helm of the book with a new artist Riccardo Burchielli (DMZ).
The solicits kind of spoiled what's going to happen in the last issue of Punisher: War Machine #228. But I won't spoil it for you.
In the interview to Marvel's page Matthew said a few good things about what's coming up with this new run.
"We’re going to get back to Frank Castle with a handgun and a knife, stalking the streets of New York, and getting his hands dirty. But we’re also going to see a man who has changed from his time in the armor. He developed a taste for bigger game and larger targets, and he’s not going to give that up easily. So in a sense it’s back to basics — but on a bigger scale."
Cover artist: Greg Smallwood
Back to basics Frank means we will have the Punisher with his usual arsenal to take out major threats in the Marvel Universe. From this interview we can expect some major appearances from the villainy world of Marvel Universe and seeing the Punisher tag along with them without killing them or getting killed will be a major challenge for Matthew Rosenberg.
"We’re going to have seen him travel overseas to overthrow a government and kill a world leader, and then come back home and go toe-to-toe with some of the most powerful people in the Marvel Universe."
I guess we have to wait for August, 1st and see what happens. But I think Matthew Rosenberg one of the best writers who picked up the character since Garth Ennis in Welcome Back, Frank. He deserves this recognition.

Excited would be an understatement. I despised the war machine premise. Tho I'm well aware the talent Matthew is so I'm excited to see what he can do with a B2B punisher with bigger targets. Usually Punisher stories fail at this. But he made the world think war machine was a good story minus it's lack in logic. That's good comic writing skill so he should have no problem here.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see how you masquerade your lack of taste for Punisher: War Machine with the fact that Rosenberg "made" the world "think" it was a good story. Lovely and hilarious.
DeleteIt's easier to say that you don't like it. Period. Move on.
If I didn't like it I would have said I didn't Ivo. You really think im one to hold back my opinions? I'm actually very hyped for this series Mr know it all. word of advice. You'd have more fans on this blog if you'd stop acting the kid in the corner who knows everything. As this comment clearly proves you don't. I literally tweeted Matthew Rosenberg support when this was announced which he replied to and you're saying I'm bitter.
DeleteYou "seem" to know it all because from your statement the Punisher War Machine is crap but they magically make people like it.
DeleteAnd you don't need to crack your nails Mr. Offended what do you know about this blog's traffic? You seem to "know-it-all" A LOT. :)
I don't know everything. But I've been commenting on this site for a few years now and unless youre Ray Charles a four year old can see the amount of regular commenters has gone down drastically. You chewing out everyone who disagrees with you helps ten fold I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI love your site and I love your reviews. I wouldn't keep coming back and commenting if I didn't. You just gotta chill bro. Not everyone who disagrees isn't a fan or is a troll. Some of us like myself just don't enjoy it. I've read the war machine run. I don't just troll it. I geniunrly dislike/disagree with it. Not just because of Frank but because how this affects war machine as a character from a standpoint of how little is rhodey seen as a character that his suit is just given to him like that, figuratively speaking. I'm well aware that iron man and co have since been confirmed to show up and confront Frank about this but I feel like it's a line that shouldn't have been crossed not unlike Hydra cap. Especially it being done during a storyline of comics called "Legacy" Not from Frank's perspective. But rhodeys ok. My roommate is a huge iron man fan and feels the same way. That said the action and writing is and dialogue is great. So I'm looking forward to seeing what Matthew Rosenberg can do with Frank out of that suit. I tweeted this to Matthew himself whom I've had very public arguments on twittwer with. He responded to my enthusiasm and said he hoped i would enjoy it. So what's the big deal bro?
DeleteThere is no deal bro. If this was your first post we wouldn't had argue about our own differences. And forget about Legacy, it will be over in August.
DeleteThis is good blog. I think I want to be referred to the 80s punisher. He was my favorite
